Well the ice climbing season has officially ended, skiing up in the gullys and ravines remains quite good, although the usual hazards need to be heeded, ice fall, crevasses and avalanches. So be prepared!
Rock climbing season is in full swing here in the valley and we’ve got all of our new climbing gear and ropes in stock. New shipments of spring and summer clothing are arriving daily as well as a great assortment of hiking boots, approach shoes and climbing shoes.

It has finally stopped raining and in typical New England form, we’re going from snow and rain to 80 degrees in a matter of days!
The Saco River is pretty high, luckily all the ice down here in the valley is long gone, so there were no ice damns, which can really cause problems.
The mountains received mostly rain that triggered some interesting avalanche conditions, but by the weekend things should settle down and spring skiing should be great.
I anticipate a lot of rock climbers showing up Friday for some outstanding early season climbing.
We’ve got the shop all stocked up with climbing gear, ropes and chalk and will be getting our summer clothing in soon.
Be sure to stop by and say “Hi” when you’re in town.

More ugly weather today and tomorrow after a brief return to winter. This will bring some interesting conditions up in the high mountains. Be sure to carefully check the latest avalanche reports before heading out!
Once things settle down, the cliffs should be pretty much clear of any lingering chucks of ice, and when things dry out, rock climbing should be great.
We’ve still got a pretty good selection of rental gear on sale, now’s the time to buy while prices are at their lowest!

Ugly weather today! This will most likely take care of any remaining ice climbs out there, but the good news is the cliffs will be mostly clear and most areas should be safe for rock climbing when the sun comes back out. But always be aware, there still can be ice blocks hidden in various cracks, and you don’t want to be under them when they decide to fall!
Our weekend rental sale was great, but with all the gear we have there is still plenty to choose from, and at the same great sale prices!
We’re getting in new rock gear and summer clothing daily now, so stop by when you’re in town.
The back country skiing should still be good after the rain and things settle down, so don’t put away those boards yet!
Our own guide Zeb Jakub has broken new ground with some incredible Kite Boarding on Mount Washington!

This is always an interesting time of year. We recieved over 4 feet of snow above 1500 feet and little or none down here in the valley. The sun has been warm and the snow that we did have here is melting rapidly. This is the time I like to multi-sport! You can ice climb, rock climb, ski, hike, kayak and bike ride, and if you’re really enthusiastic, do them all in one day!
We’re clearing out all of our winter clothing and gear and will have all our rental gear on sale by the end of the month, so be sure to stop by

Over 200 participants enjoyed 3 days of great weather and great climbing. The Climbing comp was highly entertaining and won by local stud Bayard Russell. Steve House led several clinics and presented an awesome slideshow, and the Saturday night 80’s dance party was wild and crazy with Jimmy Surette taking the best costume prize home!
Well have photos and more posted in a while.
