I
have been climbing for ten years and guiding with IMCS for seven years.
I began guiding and instructing rock climbing at The Eagles Nest,
a camp in North Carolina. It was here that I learned the value of
patience and the fun of sharing in an individual's successful completion
of a challenging rock climbing experience. I went on to broaden my
instructional experience by joining the team at IMCS where I continued
to lead group lessons, both on the rock and as lead instructor. I
love to climb! I also love to share the excitement and adventure of
climbing with people through instruction and developing respect for
the rock and nature as a whole. I use climbing as a metaphor for life
with the people I climb with. I tell them that climbing is a lot like
life in that you must face challenges and overcome obstacles. You
have to improvise and adapt to your surroundings with the equipment
provided; whether it be webbing, rope, carabiners and protection pieces
or your mind, body, soul and basic will to acheive.
Tom spent the winter of 2001 doing a baking internship in Paris, France.
Tom came and opened Rising Sun Bakery here in North Conway Village.
The business didn't work out but the experience matured him. Besides
being an expereinced baker Tom is also a seasoned builder. Recently
he built an amazingly versatile indoor climbiing wall in the barn
of a local climber.
This summer Tom, his partner Michelle Fisher and her son Austin are
managing the Covered Bridge campground in Albany NH near Sundown Cliffs.
The campground is a fifteen minute drive from North Conway . If you
have a party of climbers or hikers you need to arange lodging for
you might want to check out this USFS campground on the Kancamagus
Highway.
Tom is an expereinced and gifted teacher. He knows how to motivate
and inspire climbers of all ages and abilities.
