Two Day Winter Mountain Skills
With an ascent of Mt Washington
This course is a combination of two of our most popular programs, our one day Winter Skills Course and our one day Ascent of Mount Washington. This course does not include an overnight, so you'll need to make lodging arrangements in town.

Day one is the perfect introductory Mountaineering course and will teach you how to dress for winter, how to pack and select the proper gear. You will learn how to move efficiently in winter boots and crampons, and how to climb low to moderate angled snow and ice terrain.
This is a great introduction to the skills needed for above treeline travel and  winter mountaineering. No previous climbing experience is required for registration but participants should be prepared for a challenging day. The day will be spent outdoors learning and practicing crampon, ice axe, and rope skills, and self arrest. At the conclusion of the day, we will gear up and get ready for our summit attempt on Mount Washington.

This course meets on day 1 at 8:30 AM weekdays and 8:00 AM weekends and Holidays.

Day two, we will meet at 7:00 AM and head to Pinkham Notch for our climb of the tallest peak in the Northeast.

Add a day and winter camping overnight with our 3 Day Basic Mountaineering Course

The proper clothing is vital if you are to enjoy the program. Please take the quote "Cotton Kills" seriously. Cotton is NOT suitable for use in the mountains in winter. Please check the gear list we have provided to make sure you are prepared. IMCS will provide you with Boots, Crampons, Ice Axe and any other technical gear we deem necessary. We also have winter clothing available for rent. Please contact us with any questions about clothing or gear.
